Vacant Property Registration
Pursuant to City of Jeannette Ordinance No. 16-04 all vacant and abandoned buildings and structures in the City of Jeannette must be registered after sixty (60) consecutive days of vacancy.

Summary: Properties which are vacant for more than 60 days must register with the Fire Department and pay a registration fee. Such properties are subject to an annual inspection. Properties must comply with local code. Violations of City code or registration procedures could result in court proceedings and fines. Vacant storefronts must comply with the registration requirements and also contain an appropriate window display or screen on the first floor.
Annual Registration Fees:
Vacant less than one (1) year: $250

Maintenance Requirements (Article 6):
- Properties must be kept free of weeds, high grass, brush, dead vegetation
- Properties must be kept free of garbage, junk, debris, rubbish, building materials
- Properties must be kept free of accumulated newspapers, circulars, flyers, notices, printed materials
- Properties must be kept free of discarded furniture, clothing, appliances, vehicles or parts
- Properties must be kept free of graffiti, tagging or similar markings
- Properties must be landscaped and maintained in the front, side and rear yards
- Properties must have pools and spas in working order, water must be clear or dried out, and no debris or pests
- Properties must comply with the above within 30 days of registration
Security Requirements (Article 7):
- Properties shall be maintained such that it is inaccessible to unauthorized persons, vermin or pests
- Properties shall have locked windows, doors, gates and other openings
- Properties shall not have borken windows
Vacant Storefronts (Article 8):
- Vacant storefronts must register within 60 days after the ground floor becomes vacant
- Vacant storefronts shall be maintained in good condition, kept neat and clean
- Vacant storefronts shall be free of graffiti
- Vacant storefronts shall be lighted
- Vacant storefronts shall contain a window display or decorative screen on the first floor (The Community Development Department may be able to assist with acquiring displays that are consistent and uniform with other vacant storefronts)
- Window displays must have a professional appearance and may not be offensive to the general public
- Handwritten signs are not permitted
- Profession or Real Estate signs are permitted such that they meet zoning requirements
- Profession or Real Estate signs may not have more than three square feet of informational text
